We thought the lawn outside the Elementary was looking extra-nice, and now it makes sense! Preschool students took advantage of the beautiful weather and and trimmed the grass as a part of their skills unit that included cutting with scissors.

Mrs. McCord’s students worked with a partner to answer task card questions about the water cycle. Their answers determined how to color the picture. #EngagedLearners #PC5

It’s #ThrowbackThursday. It’s a busy day for activities at PCS including competitions for JH FB, JH VB, JH XC, HS GG, HS VB and HS XC. Back in 1945-46, the Grainton School Activities Calendar (Grainton, NE) could be printed on a single sheet of paper…but they do hold bragging rights over PCS with their “girls sports” of ping-pong and badminton.
Although unincorporated now, at one time Grainton boasted its own school. The village of Grainton resides within the current PCS school district.

JH HAL:
For September, the JH #HighAbilityLearners took a field trip that combined a bit of history and geography with agronomy and entrepreneurship.
• Colorado’s NE Corner Marker:
https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=119436
• Our Lavender Co. (Big Springs, NE)
https://ourlavenderco.com/
Students toured the lavender fields, geothermal greenhouse, learned about the lavender distillation process, sampled lavender lemonade and lavender apple cider, fabricated lavender rollerballs (that they got to keep) and shopped in the gift store. Many thanks to the Palser family for hosting our tour!

3rd Grade Library:
Mrs. Turner organized a fun way for students to “taste-test” a book to see if it peaked their interest. Students found books that were “just right” for their individual “tastes.”

Third Grade Science:
Students are learning the purpose of the parts of plants. Blume Flower Studio donated flowers to let students test if the stem brings the water to the rest of the plant. Students tested this by adding food coloring to the water.

Internships:
We’re glad that a handful of juniors and seniors chose to spend their Internship time at the Elementary, this semester. Sydney is helping Kindergartners with some one-on-one reading and letter identification.
